The professional association Conservadors-Restauradors Associats de Catalunya (CRAC) is organizing the XVIII Technical Meeting on Conservation-Restoration, to be held on 19 and 20 November 2026 at CaixaForum Barcelona.

A profession in transition

Conservation-restoration is entering a new era shaped by digitalization, emerging technologies, and Artificial Intelligence. Faced with today’s environmental, social, and material challenges, the profession is undergoing a profound transformation in which digital tools and data analysis are becoming essential allies for preserving cultural heritage.

The adoption of AI and new technologies is transforming diagnosis, intervention, and heritage management. This edition of the Technical Meeting aims to be a space for discussion and exchange on how these tools can improve conservation-restoration processes and promote more sustainable practices in the long term, while opening new paths for knowledge and heritage interpretation.

Interdisciplinarity —collaboration between scientists, technology experts, and conservators-restorers— becomes key in this new paradigm, which calls for redefining methodologies and expanding the boundaries of the discipline.

Topics to be covered

During the Meeting, research work, applied projects, case studies, and technological developments in the field of conservation-restoration will be presented, organized into the following thematic tracks:

1. Digital diagnosis and analysis of heritage.
2. Emerging technologies applied to intervention.
3. Smart management of collections and heritage environments.

In addition, the Meeting will feature an exhibition space for specialised companies developing useful tools and solutions for conservators, giving attendees the opportunity to get to know firsthand technological innovations.
