International Conference Baroque Stucco Marble Altars: Materials, Conservation and Meaning

We invite you to attend the international conference Baroque Stucco-Marble Altars: Materials,
Conservation, and Meaning, which will take place on September 15 and 16, 2026, at the National
Gallery of Slovenia in Ljubljana.
The conference will examine Baroque stucco-marble altars from the perspectives of materials studies
and art history. By bringing together experts from various disciplines, the event aims to foster a
comprehensive discussion on the artistic, technical, and historical significance of these works of art.
Special attention will be given to issues of materiality, workshop practices, artistic exchanges, and the
conservation-restoration of stucco-marble. The conference aims to shed light not only on the aesthetic
and symbolic significance of these altars but also on the wide range of methodological approaches
currently used for their research, preservation, and interpretation.
The working language of the conference will be English. We cordially invite all those with an interest
