Museums, as stewards of cultural heritage, face increasing challenges in safeguarding their collections. Changes in our physical, societal, and economic environments all pose risks to the preservation and conservation of cultural objects and the institutions that care for them.

Continuing the "Focus on Conservation" conference series, this online event will explore how cultural heritage professionals and institutions can build resilience in the face of these pressures. The 2025 event will centre on strategies and approaches that support the long-term sustainability of collections, conservation practices, and institutions themselves.

Through the following sessions, participants will gain insights into the various "Routes to Resilience."

ONLINE- ÖRV Gesprächsrunde - Let's talk „museum"

Am 02.12.2025 startet unser neues Format Let's talk „museum" – eine online Gesprächsrunde zum Austausch der Restaurator:innen in musealen Einrichtungen.
Das erste online Treffen wird zum Thema Leihverkehr ( z. B. Kuriertätigkeiten, Umsetzung und Akzeptanz der Leihvorgaben) abgehalten.
Wir freuen uns über eine rege Beteiligung, einen pulsierenden Austausch und die aktive Förderung der Vernetzung innerhalb der Kollegenschaft!

 Auch Nichtmitglieder sind herzlich zur Teilnahme eingeladen.

ICOMOS Austria Best Practice Award 2025 - Preisverleihung

Bundesdenkmalamt, Ahnensaal

Am Mittwoch, 3. Dezember 2025, wird im feierlichen Ambiente des Ahnensaals der Hofburg Wien der ICOMOS Austria Best Practice Award 2025 verliehen. Gemeinsam mit dem Bundesdenkmalamt (BDA) zeichnet ICOMOS Austria herausragende Projekte der Denkmalpflege und Baukultur aus.

 Die Arbeitsgruppe ICOMOS Austria Best Practice Award unter der Leitung von Architekt DI Stefan Mastal würdigt dabei beispielhafte Initiativen, die Sorgfalt, Innovation und Verantwortung bei der Erhaltung unseres gebauten Erbes vereinen.

 Durch den Abend führt die renommierte Architekturjournalistin Franziska Leeb. Nach der Begrüßung durch Mag.a Petra Weiss (BDA), DI Elias Molitschnig (BMWKMS) und ao. Univ. Prof. Dr. Caroline Jäger-Klein (Präsidentin ICOMOS Austria) erwartet die Gäste ein inspirierender Austausch mit Preisträgerinnen, Planenden, Bauherrschaften sowie Vertreterinnen aus Forschung und Öffentlichkeit.

 Unsere 10-köpfige Fachjury hat in verschiedenen Runden 14 nominierte Projekte ausgewählt, welche in der Folge befahren wurden und aus denen die drei Preise und vier Anerkennungspreise ausgelobt wurden.

Konferenz: TARGETING BEAUTY. MEMORY POLITICS, ARCHAEOLOGY, AND THE TARGETING OF UKRAINIAN CULTURE HERITAGE

Cultural heritage has few friends in times of war.  In many ways the full-scale invasion of Ukraine is focused on memory politics, with the broader aim of erasing Ukrainian culture, history and heritage. Working as part of a collaborative international team of archaeologists and filmmakers, during three visits from 2023–2025, Ian Kuijt and others traveled through central and north-eastern Ukraine filming and documenting the targeted destruction of cultural heritage. This presentation provides a first-hand account of travels around Kyiv, Lukashivka, Viazivka and Chernihiv, illustrates the destruction on the ground, and discusses the importance of understanding and assessing the destruction of Ukrainian cultural heritage, both material and immaterial. Kuijt argues that cultural heritage management during the on-going war in Ukraine presents three major challenges: protecting the known, securing the displayed, and identifying newly revealed cultural heritage.
